bandari technique and choreography - hanover

WHERE: Richard W. Black Center (HANOVER)

TIME: 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. (90 minutes) beginning september 19

day: Mondays, (8 weeks, 90 minute classes, no class on october 10, final class 60 minutes on november 21)

DESCRIPTION:  Bandari is a fabulous folk dance from the port town in Iran called Bandar.  Stylistically, it is a mixture of Belly Dance, Sub-Saharan African dance and Persian dance.  I have been privileged to study Bandari from a variety of sources, most notably the famous Persian dance scholars Shahrzad Khorsandi, Laurel Victoria Gray and Helene Eriksen, as well as performing Bandari with the Silk Road Dance Company.  This choreography will be energetic (but not physically taxing), with a lively and upbeat spirit.  Class time will be dedicated to learning the technique and choreography, as well as the administrative and costuming issues involved with show performance.

PLEASE NOTE:  All Level 2 classes require instructor permission (by email) even if you have registered in Level 2 classes in the past.  All Level 2 students registered during the Fall of 2011 will be required to perform in the November 19 show. Only one absence will be allowed, and it may not be during the month of November.  If you are unable/uninterested in performing, please consider a beginner class this fall.
