DESCRIPTION:
This might be the class that I am most excited about for Winter 2018.  Having studied, choreographed and presented Qajar and Miniature style Persian dance (not to mention Bandari) for years, I feel like I've earned the right to back it off and teach Persian pop : )  Raqs-e-mehmouni means "Persian party dance".  Why am I so excited?  Its cute and fun!  This could be considered a sub-genre of Belly Dance (I suppose) but .... its Persian.  And of course Persian style is different from Arab styles, but certainly related by culture and geography.  It would answer the question, how do you make "Belly Dance" Persian?  Those inexperienced in Classical Persian dance will find this choreography to be a fun way into "what is Persian".  While it uses many of the same moves as Classical Persian dance, its not hard.  No difficult hand positions!  It allows inexperienced Persian dancers to learn about what makes social dance look and feel Persian while using many Belly Dance moves that you know.  For our experienced Persian dancers ..... ah ..... this will be heaven.  You will learn to have fun with many of the moves that you know, and thereby deepen your understanding of the breadth of Persian dance and Persian style.

This class is open to second year Intermediate students who performed at intermediate level in East of Egypt, and it is also open to Advanced students. This will be a very fun, accessible and non-exlusive dance class (with a later option for performance) for any experienced intermediate or advanced dancer.   It is not open to students who have just graduated from beginner class.
